MERIKE HESS

Interview done by: Erika Bout & Karel Peters

1. In your own words, describe the role of a co-prez

I think the co-prez is to of course be the head of SAC and work with the people on SAC to organize events for students. Also, being the voice of the student body and the connection between other schools and their co-prezes. If there wasn’t that head connection between schools there wouldn’t be a way to know what’s going on.

2. What three adjectives would best describe you?

Hmm...I would say approachable, helpful, and friendly.

3. If I had a choice between going to Preston or another school, tell me the advantages and benefits of choosing Preston.

Well obviously I wouldn't know because I haven’t gone to another school, but I would say we’re more spirited. At our school, you don’t always feel like we’re really spirited. However, from talking to students that go to other schools, when they see Preston at a game or an event, they can tell we’re proud to be cheering for Preston and we care about our school. Not all schools are like that, which is weird because it seems so natural for us.

4. What’s your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

First I think she’s really pretty! Also, a lot of the ‘bad’ things people say she’s done aren’t that horrible. Except she did lose Liam Hemsworth and he’s like a God!

5. Name an issue at our school that you would try to solve if you were elected co-prez.

If you couldn't tell by my posters around the school, what I want to be evident in my speech and video is my goal of making Preston more of a community. It feels like no one really knows each other. Yes we all have our groups of friends that we know really well, but we’re not all comfortable talking to random people even thought there’s only 1,200 kids here. I want to bring people together, do more pay it forward type of events. Really getting us to understand each other on a deeper level.

6. What activities are you involved with at Preston other than SAC?

I’m in agriculture club, did a global outreach trip this year to Panama, and also cross country. SAC does take up a lot of my time but I like to be involved in other things, too!

7. What activities are you involved in outside of Preston?

I go to Estonian school every week because I want to get more fluent in Estonian. I also volunteer in the Estonian community. I’m learning guitar and I’m in a band with my sisters. I used to dance a lot, not anymore, but I still enjoy going to zumba! I’m in Student Senate, too, where kids from all over the school board meet with board members and talk about issues going on in schools. Oh, I’m also a French tutor!

8. If writing an autobiography, what would the title be?

I’ve actually thought about this before. One of the autobiographies I read recently was called “Stories of Me” or something like that which I really liked! I think mine would be along the lines of that like, “Hey This is Me.”

9. If you could only tell us one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I’m a super family-oriented girl with way too many ideas for my life and I probably won’t have time to do them all!

10. Coke or Pepsi?

Pepsi, but I do like the old vintage Coke bottles. I don’t have any old Pepsi bottles but I do like it more.
