Girls Rugby Team ‘Rucks it Up’ in Ireland

The girls rugby team showed their Panther pride in Ireland over the march break. Visiting 4 cities, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, and Kilkenny, they learned about Irish culture, tried new sports, and played the grand game of rugby against Irish girls.

In total the Panthers played 3 games overseas. Going into the matches, their only aim was to do their best and to also have fun.The girls worked together as a team and won their first game against the Panthers from Dublin with a score of 10-5. The Preston girls had a tough second game in Galway against Tuam losing 32-24 while playing short. However, after the game, the two teams bonded by singing, eating, dancing, and sharing a passion for the game of rugby. The last game was played in Kilkenny against the Munster Province U18 team, the strongest of all 3 opponents. The girls played their hearts out but were defeated and lost 48-7. Despite being outmatched, they played tough, stayed positive, and played right to the very end.

Along with rugby, other highlights of the trip included learning hurling which is Ireland’s national sport, watching the St. Patricks Day parade in Galway, visiting castles, walking the edges of The Cliffs of Moher, and spending quality time together as a team. The girls are hoping to bring back the positive energy from the trip and use it as an asset in the upcoming season.
