Preston Loves Cake!

On Thursday April 2nd, Preston ran its second annual cake auction in support of the Senior’s Dinner and Nutrition for Learning. The event was an amazing success having auctioned off 95 cakes and raising $2 600 for the charities. The auction was a true showing of Preston pride, and the event was a great way to end the week.

Awards were given at the beginning of the event for the most colourful, spirited, best themed and overall best cake. These awards gave bakers incentive to create the best cakes possible for the event. The awards winners included Keristen May’s farm themed cake for best overall cake, and Neve Churchill’s Preston sport themed cake for most spirited. Also awarded was a sandcastle cake for best themed, and a rainbow sprinkle cake for most colourful.

Period 2 classes sent two representatives each to bid on cakes with money the had raised over the past few weeks. It appeared that each class sent their two most competitive student as the bidding was fierce. The prices of cakes ranged from $10 to almost $150 depending on the size, flavour and decorating of each cake.

After bidding, the student representatives brought their cakes back to their classrooms for the rest of the class to enjoy. The cake eating made second period a lot more fun for many classes. Almost every cake was consumed entirely which showed that the cake auction is not only great for the charities, but for the students at PHS also.

Overall, the cake auction was hugely successful and the school is looking forward to outdoing itself again next year at the third annual auction.
